Alkaloids are a class of nitrogen-containing organic compounds, most of which have a complex ring structure, with nitrogen atoms mostly contained in the ring structure and partly located on the side chains, and most of them are basic. Alkaloids play an important role in plant response to environmental stresses and defense against pests and diseases, and are good insecticides in agriculture, as well as active ingredients in drugs with functional properties such as anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, immunity enhancement and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Alkaloid Detection Methods

  • Acid dye colorimetric method

The alkaloids are chemically reacted with acid dyes to produce colored ion pairs, which are quantitatively soluble in certain organic solvents and finally determined colorimetrically. It is generally used for the determination of total alkaloid content.

  • Thin layer chromatography

A certain amount of sample and standard solution is drawn by micro syringe onto a high dispersion thin layer plate, blown dry, unfolded with different spreading agents, evaporated with solvent, and developed by Drangendorff reagent.

  • Near-infrared spectroscopy

NIR spectroscopy is a non-destructive, rapid, non-polluting, low-cost, multi-component method for the simultaneous detection of samples in packaging materials without sample preparation and after establishing a reliable calibration model.

  • Gas chromatography

The GC-MS method has good separation effect, high sensitivity and good reproducibility.

  • High performance liquid chromatography

HPLC has high separation efficiency (generally a separation takes only a few seconds to a few minutes), high sensitivity, low sample dosage, and good reproducibility. HPLC can be used in combination with UV detector, diode array detector, fluorescence detector, evaporative light detector and electrochemical detector respectively, all of which can detect the content of alkaloids, and the results obtained are highly accurate.

Sample requirements for HPLC determination of alkaloids

Please make sure the sample size is greater than 0.2 g or 0.2 mL, the assay sample will not be returned, please keep your backup.
