Description
Patchouli alcohol, coming from the herbs of Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth, has the potential to treat inflammation as well as bacterial and fungal infections. It exhibited selective antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori, without influencing the major normal gastrointestinal bacteria. Patchouli alcohol significantly accelerated the recovery of the UV-induced skin lesions, evidently through anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory action, as well as down-regulation of the MMP-1 and MMP-3 expression.
