Description
Glabridin is a bio-available isoflavan isolated from licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) root extract. It has been reported to possess various biological activities, including strong antioxidant activity, anti-LDL oxidation, anti-Helicobacter pylori properties, estrogen-like activity, anti-nephropathy, and free radical scavenging activity. It retains anti-inflammatory abilities to regulate the synthesis and activity of iNOS under high-glucose levels, implying that a Glabridin supplement may serve as an anti-inflammatory agent in diabetes-related vascular dysfunction. It inhibited the invasion of human HCC cells and may have potential as a chemopreventive agent against liver cancer metastasis. It exhibits antiplasmodial activity and is suitable for developing antimalarial agent from a cheap and sustainable source. It may possess a therapeutic effect on metabolic disorders, such as diabetes and hyperglycemia, by modulating glucose metabolism through AMPK in skeletal muscle cells. Glabridin is also a key ingredient used in cosmetics. It has whitening, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant effects.
