Description
Eudesmin is purified from the dry leaves of Haplophyllum perforatum Kar.et Kir. Eudesmin can induce vascular relaxation in rat aorta, which is mediated by release of nitric oxide and prostanoid through the involvement of histamine receptor present in the endothelial cells. (+)-Eudesmin has neuritogenic activity. It can induce neurite outgrowth and enhance nerve growth factor (NGF)-mediated neurite outgrowth from PC12 cells by stimulating up-stream MAPK, PKC and PKA pathways. Eudesmin shows anti-inflammatory effects, significantly inhibits TNF-alpha production by lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated murine macrophage RAW264.7 without displaying cytotoxicity, and can significantly attenuate T cell proliferation stimulated by concanavalin A (Con A) in a dose-dependent manner.
