Description
Coumestrol is a phytoestrogen found in soybeans, spinach, and clover, mimicking the biological activity of estrogens. Coumestrol binds to the ERα and Erβ to exhibit estrogenic activity. Coumestrol also exhibits weak antagonist activity for pregnane X receptors (IC50 = 12 μM) as well as inverse agonist activity for the constitutive androstane receptors.
